This week, I expressed appreciation for our hardworking board members on Facebook. (If you're not following us on Facebook, please click here to join the conversation!) You can also learn more about the "people behind the project" on this webpage.
What exactly do the board members of Acres of Adventure do? They guide and govern our organization. Initially, when we were working to establish the nonprofit structure of AoA, the board members provided insight and guidance in creating our by-laws and governing documents. Now, as we have moved into the planning phase for our Learning Center, they share ideas, input, and expertise. They create plans and oversee the budget. They contribute to fundraising efforts by sharing their networks and connections. Perhaps most importantly, they provide financial oversight for the organization by approving expenditures and financial reports.
The board took one big idea ("Hey, let's do this project"), and they've broken it into tangible milestones and realistic ways to get there. They're making a concept a reality by putting their own hard work and passion into it.
One of the things I'm most proud of is the breadth of experience our board brings to the table. We have business owners, an extension agent, an attorney, a veterinarian, and a magazine editor. That's pretty much a dream team.
Because I don't say it enough, thank you to our board for what they bring to this project. We're moving forward, and it's because of their time and talents.
